One of my New Year’s Resolutions is to read at least one book per month. I know that isn’t shooting for the stars, but at least its a start! When I lived in Washington I was in a Family Book Club (which grew to include friends as well), and I loved how it forced me to read regularly and learn new things about myself and those in the group. So along with reading a book per month, I decided to create my very own book club!
I invited friends as well as people I don’t know all that well, and I’m super excited to meet monthly and learn more about the 10 others in my group! In case it wasn’t obvious, I strongly suggest doing this. You can get to know people in such a different way when seeing them in a setting like Book Club… it becomes a deeper, richer, more impactful relationship.
I’ve decided to share our monthly book selection with my followers so that you all can “participate” should you need a book suggestion. When announcing the next month’s post, I will update on some “takeaways” from the previous month!
January’s Book Club Choice: Braving the Wilderness by Brene Brown
My aunt sent me this book for Christmas, and I decided it would be a great start. Last week as we were solidifying Book Club plans, I was surprised how many people had Brown’s book on their list of must reads! I planned on posting about this book today, and then this morning, I was even more excited to see that Reese Witherspoon (a truly amazing woman in my opinion) posted on her Instagram about this very same read saying, “it really made me stop and think about the important things in life: i.e. having the courage to be confident in your decisions, the importance of connecting with others, as well as being thoughtful and open to having conversations with those who may have different opinions than you.” … so I definitely think we’re starting off January with a bang!
