Product Review: Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale BEAUTY Buys

During the Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale I purchased some BEAUTY items and mentioned them in this post.  Now that I’ve had time to use them all, I figured I should update you guys on my thoughts!  I’ve put them in order of my favorite purchases.

Jumbo Photo Finish Foundation Primer by Smashbox $49 (still on sale… $62 value)

This will forever be an everyday item for me… so buying it in the jumbo size is just that much better.  It has an odd smell, but once applied I don’t think you can smell it at all, and it makes your skin so silky and smooth before you apply makeup.  It also really helps with oil reduction and for someone like me who tends to get oily (which can make your makeup melt) it has been a lifesaver.

INKcredible Waterproof Gel Eyeliner Pencil Collection by Laura Geller Beauty $22/pencil

During the sale I actually got a box of 5 of these pencils in different colors for only $27! I have to say, the reviews I read before purchasing were very accurate.  They glide on easily and I had no issues with them bleeding when on the upper or lower eyelid.  I’m typically only into wearing black or brown eyeliner, but I’ve found that the gem-like hues of the other colors look great and are rather deep so I can get away with them without feeling like I’m wearing super bright eyeliner.  The only downside in my mind is that they don’t do well on that inner part that’s in between your eyeball and your eyelashes… the more “wet” part. It glides on well there BUT it doesn’t seem to stay well; the times that I did try it in that area, I ended up having some bleed out in the corner of my eye.  All in all, I would still recommend even at $22/pencil.

Go Clean Duo by Sigma Beauty $24.50 (still 30% off)

WOW I needed to wash my brushes (I know… that’s so gross.) This cleaning mat is still on sale and it works really well paired with the soap.  The only thing I disliked is that the suction cups on the back of the mat worked well when I was cleaning the brushes (so the mat was flat in the sink), but when I tried to hang it on both my mirror and shower door to dry off before storing, it kept falling down! That’s such a minor issue and of course had no impact on actually cleaning my brushes, but I thought I’d share.

Glow Beauty Boosting Deluxe Set by Me $95 (still on sale… $135 value)

It might be slightly premature to review this item, because I’m not sure that it has had enough time to work magic on my skin haha, but I think it is still worth mentioning that I love how it feels.  The fabric is wonderfully soft, and I love that there’s no special instructions for washing the pillow cases.  My hair actually does appear to be more silky which is supposed to be one of the perks, but as for my skin, I can’t say for sure. I’m happy with this purchase even if I’m not 100% sure of the full affect it has had on me!

Nude Lip Duo by Laura Mercier $28 (still on sale… $51 value)

I’m so sad to say that this is the only item I did not like and therefore returned.  I should have known, but “nude” to one person is not “nude” to another.  On my skin-tone the liner and lipstick were extremely orange… very bright and not at all nude.  That being said, I’m always interested in lipsticks so I was willing to give it a try.  Unfortunately, despite having rather smooth lips, the lipstick seemed to settle into every crease and no amount of layering with the liner made it look even.  Perhaps from far away it would have looked fine, but up close it was definitely a disaster!

It was a great round of beauty purchases this year at the Half Yearly Sale, and luckily if you haven’t tried these items, many are still on sale!

What’d you buy and love? Let me know!
