I’m in love with all the faux fur I’m seeing EVERYWHERE. While real cowhides and sheepskin rugs look beautiful, you can get the fake alternatives (which are becoming both realistic and popular) for a fraction of the price.
My favorite faux fur element to add to any and all homes is the cowhide rug. I got mine on Overstock.com over a year ago when they were slightly more difficult to find, but now you can waltz into most stores and find one that matches your style. There’s all types of colors from white, to spotted brown and white, black, even brindle (which is what I chose)… any color you’d find in nature (and even some that don’t exist) can be found! While mine is laying on the hardwood floor, I’ve seen them layered on top of carpeting and other throw rugs too giving people a variety of options.
Rugs are my favorite, but I don’t stop there… I have faux fur throw blankets and pillows as well, and I’m always on the hunt for more. Their fun textures and various colors make them easy to add to most decor… and they’ll do just that, add. I truly believe a quality faux fur throw or pillow can change the look of a room in the best way possible. But watch out, the overly plasticy-feeling pieces with matted hair doesn’t make anyone think of a “posh” setting. Find the ones that look and feel a little more real… perhaps more silky, so you don’t end up making a room look cheap and dingy.
Hides and fur elements are no longer reserved for ranches and cabins as they can be tastefully integrated into all design concepts… and with the increased quality in faux fur pieces, there’s no need to buy the real deal!

And for some pretty (and inexpensive) pillows, click here and here. Remember, faux fur in bold colors (even in gem tones) are a beautiful way to add color and texture to your home decor.
Below are a few examples of faux fur to stay away from. Anything that looks like woven hair balls (duh), feels and looks like plastic, has an odd pattern that would never be found in nature, or is overly matted is probably something to stay away from.
All that being said, faux fur is fun because it tends to be so soft and cozy… so maybe you don’t care if it looks real or not and you just like how it feels. If that’s the case, worry less about how real it feels, and more about how it makes you feel! 🙂
