We bought our house in October and have a lot of house projects/furniture purchases in our immediate future, so when my husband’s birthday rolled around in December he said there wasn’t anything he really wanted (or needed)… at least not more than furnishing our home. So, we did a nice dinner and called it good… but I still wanted to get a little something for him. Enter, Universal Yums.
Universal Yums is a monthly subscription to snacks from all around the world. Your box will ship directly to your door, and then all you — or whoever you’re gifting them to — have to do is try the unique flavors! Prices range from $15 to $41 per month, you can prepay for a set period of time (at a better value) or pay monthly, and cultural information about the snacks come along too. Because the first month of our — errr… I mean my husband’s — subscription started in December, it was the Holiday Box which gave us holiday goodies from around the world, plus a fun page to rate our snacks, an activity book about the various snacks, and stickers.
My favorite snack from the December box was the Popcorn Flavored Truffles from France (with the Nutty Yogurt Flavored Nougat Bar from Greece as a close second.) And by a long shot — which is hard to achieve considering we had things like Salted Egg Yolk Popcorn and Spicy Mustard Flavored Chips — both of our least favorite was the Cava (Sparkling Wine) Flavored Potato Chips from Spain. Not sure how Spain made a chip that makes you want to vomit the second it hits your tongue even though it theoretically should be good as it tastes EXACTLY like the name suggests… but holy moly…. DISGUSTING. Ahh… so fun trying new things! Of the 10 different snacks we received in the mid-level box, at least one of us would eat 7 of the snacks again… not bad, right?!
Just the other day I was notified that his second box will arrive soon and we can’t wait to see what’s inside! So if you have an adventurous eater on your hands, and want to get them something different for an upcoming birthday or event, this is a wonderfully fun surprise I would highly suggest.
